There is no single model for Montessori adolescence.

Across cultures and communities, Montessori adolescent programmes may look very different on the surface. Yet the most authentic environments are often connected by a shared understanding of adolescent development, purposeful work, independence, contribution and belonging.

You may be wondering:

  • How closely should our programme follow Montessori’s original writings?

  • Which adaptations strengthen practice, and which may compromise it?

  • How can we respond to local curriculum requirements without losing Montessori principles?

  • What does authentic Montessori adolescent practice look like in different parts of the world?

  • How can we keep evolving while staying connected to the fundamental needs of adolescents?

This workshop explores these questions through real examples, observations and honest reflection rather than just theoretical ideals.

From Principles to Practice

Drawing on her recent work as an AMI 12–18 Trainer-in-Training and international consultant, Laureen shares first-hand reflections from Montessori adolescent programmes across India, Mexico, the United States and Australia: not a single model to replicate, but the common threads that connect authentic practice worldwide.

What You Will Explore:

  • Montessori’s concept of the adolescent experiment

  • Common principles observed across international programmes

  • Reflections from India, Mexico, the United States and Australia

  • Innovation, adaptation and fidelity to Montessori principles

  • What these experiences suggest about the future of Montessori adolescent education

Participants will:

  • Develop a deeper understanding of Montessori's vision for adolescence as a living educational experiment.

  • Identify the core principles that remain consistent across diverse international programmes.

  • Explore innovative practices emerging from different cultural and educational contexts.

  • Reflect on how local conditions shape programme design while maintaining Montessori integrity.

  • School leaders and programme coordinators

Testimonials

"Evidence, philosophy, humour and practical wisdom, somehow all in the same workshop. I laughed, took so many notes, and I went home with a very long list of ideas."
Workshop participant
"Thought-provoking, practical and refreshingly honest. I appreciated that Laureen acknowledged the complexity of education rather than pretending there were easy answers. I left feeling inspired rather than overwhelmed."
Workshop participant
"I filled pages of notes and left with an even longer reading list, which I suspect was entirely Laureen's plan. An engaging presenter who inspires you to keep asking better questions."
Workshop participant
"I came hoping for tips to help my teenager. I left realising the biggest change probably needed to happen with me first. It was challenging in the best possible way."
