Take a look at what the

conference looked like in 2019

Being a Montessori leader is challenging and often lonely..

It has been five years since we last came together as the Lead Montessori international community, and so much has changed. The world feels more fragile than ever, and the role of education has never been more vital.

Do you recognize the impact of your work on the future of your community? As Montessori leaders, we carry great responsibility - but we cannot pour from an empty cup. Just like on an airplane, we must put on our own oxygen mask first before we can truly support and uplift others.

Leadership can be isolating, exhausting, and overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be. Taking time to reconnect, reflect, and recharge is not a luxury - it’s a necessity.

Listen to the podcast with the conference speakers.

Find strength in community, and return to your work with renewed energy and purpose

Workshop Speakers

Rooted and Flourishing: Creating a School Culture and Community where Staff Grow and Stay

Junnifa Uzodike
For any school to thrive, it needs committed adults. For a Montessori school to truly grow and for its children to develop optimally a stable, purpose-driven team is needed. In a time when many are constantly searching for meaning, passion, or simply the next opportunity, staff retention has become more critical than ever.

Culture First: Designing Strategic Planning With Your Team’s Values at Heart

Hanka Chramostova
How do we build a strategy that truly lives in our school—not just on paper? In this hands-on workshop, we’ll explore how to design a strategic planning process that starts with who we are before deciding what we do. You’ll learn how to use values and team culture as the foundation for decision-making, shared vision, and long-term direction.

Growth and Sustainability: Elements and Challenges

Christopher Barrameda
The Case Study format will explore Growth and Sustainability. It will look back reflectively at key growth elements and challenges of how a single location, single Montessori program (casa) of 12 children in a small town neighborhood grew in a span of 25 years to a 15-location system in major cities enrolling close to 1500 students offering full-spectrum Montessori program. The Case Study will also look at the sustainability elements and challenges moving forward in the next 25 years.

Key Considerations for Building (or Improving) a Second Language Program

Lucie Urbancikova
Second language policies offer useful structures. Montessori educators, however, often seek approaches rooted in wholeness, observation, and interconnected thinking. Therefore, we will explore the “L2 landscape” through a guided journey of four interconnected regions: the school, the adults, the children, and the second language itself. Each “region” represents a key influence on how second language learning unfolds in the Montessori environment.

How To Build a Fully Inclusive Montessori School: Case Study of Children's Paradise Montessori School

Marivic Bathan
A real, replicable model of a fully inclusive Montessori school that unites educators, families, and allied professionals into one coordinated support ecosystem. Marivic shares nearly two decades of CPMS’s evolution—openly naming missteps and breakthroughs—and shows how a strengths-based approach took root. You’ll learn practical steps to weave academic, social, and therapeutic supports (including OT/SLP and medical/psych consultants) into daily practice. Expect clear structures for intentional interprofessional collaboration so teachers and clinicians truly understand each other and row in the same direction. You’ll leave with tools to empower families, build a shared mission, and cultivate a culture where every child can thrive.

Growing Strong Teams: A Leadership Café on Communication, Mentorship, and Wellbeing

Dinara Zhaksylyk
How do we build strong, motivated teams—and protect our own energy as Montessori leaders? This session offers a practical and inspiring space to explore communication, mentorship, and wellbeing through the real-world example of Damina Education Center. Drawing on lived experience and evidence-based tools, we’ll reflect on what it truly means to lead with clarity, empathy, and resilience.

Developing Financial Systems for Sustainability

Candice Mckinnon
Finance as mission support, not a necessary evil: this workshop shows how to build simple yet robust financial systems that align with Montessori values. You’ll receive concrete templates and workflows for annual budgeting, cash-flow management, and basic internal controls that you can implement right away. Learn to spot common blind spots in small independent schools and align your financial plan with enrollment goals, staffing capacity, and sustainable growth. Gain the language and confidence to work with boards, accountants, and staff so decisions are timely and values-aligned. Leave with a tidy toolkit and a clear framework that stabilizes operations and protects your mission long term.

Designing Responsive Professional Development Plan That Works

Lisa Thauvette
Imagine a professional development plan as intentional and alive as your Montessori classroom — one that nurtures curiosity, honors individuality, and builds genuine trust. In this workshop, we’ll move beyond check-the-box training and design a relationship-centered approach to adult learning that truly works

Beyond Parent Education: Leading with Empathy to Build Trusting School Communities

Sarita Goacher and Anca Bobu
Montessori schools often work hard to inform and educate parents—through workshops, emails, and conferences—but still find something missing in the school-home relationship. Information is important, but it isn’t enough. This interactive session invites school and classroom leaders to go beyond traditional parent education and step into the deeper, more impactful work of truly supporting families. Participants will explore how to build long-term trust, loyalty, and belonging through everyday leadership practices. We will work our way through empathy mapping, reflective exercises, and group collaboration, we will identify the current gaps in school-home understanding and design practical solutions that can be integrated into everyday practice.

Stillness in the Storm: Mindfulness, Breath, and Nervous System Awareness in a Disconnected Age

Natalia Bennett
In a world shaped by speed, screens, and chronic overstimulation, even the most beautifully prepared Montessori environments are not enough to protect children from the effects of a dysregulated culture. This session explores how mindfulness, nervous system awareness, and conscious breathwork can become essential tools—not just for the child, but for the adult who guides them.

Grace Under Pressure: Maintaining Montessori Values During Times of Stress

Wraychel Gilmore
School leadership is facing financial stressors, constant pressure for enrollment, and increasing worry about maintaining the integrity of Montessori approaches. In this session, we will share how to plan for the unknown, be confident in the discomfort, and re-energize the pride in sticking by our values (even in Court!) - knowing this is all about the long-term impacts for generations to come.

Failing Greatly: A Montessori Approach to Entrepreneurship

Monika Kosa
Ever heard the saying that you're not a real investor until you've failed and lost millions? In business, failure is what sparks innovation and creativity. So why not embrace this mindset in Montessori schools? We admire their beautifully prepared environments, but do we recognize the trial and error involved? Many new schools stumble early on, and even those that make it still face constant challenges - it's like tiptoeing on a knife's edge. How can we instill an entrepreneurial mindset in learners if we, as adults, shy away from the realities of being Montessori entrepreneurs? It's time to acknowledge that not all passion-driven projects succeed.

Montessori Meets AI: Navigating Educational Change Responsibly

Radka Jandova
In the rapidly evolving digital landscape, Artificial Intelligence is becoming part of the everyday lives of children, educators, and parents alike. This interactive workshop will explore how Montessori principles can guide us in navigating AI responsibly – with a focus on strengthening critical thinking, emotional competence, and ethical responsibility. Together, we will examine the difference between predictive and generative AI, discuss when AI can be a helpful tool and when it becomes problematic, and look at ways to prepare children for mindful, respectful use of technology.

Modelling Effective Communication: Coaching Skills for Leaders to Navigate Difficult Conversations

Lucy Welsted
This interactive workshop is designed for Montessori school leaders who want to enhance their communication skills and approach challenging conversations with staff and families with confidence. Participants will explore the value of leaders modelling effective communication styles and how this behaviour sets the tone for trust, clarity, and respect within a school community.

Whoops to Wisdom: Finding Growth in Leadership Missteps

Rochelle Domingo
Ever tripped, fumbled, or made a “what was I thinking?” leadership call? You are not alone and those moments often hold the richest lessons. Leadership is not about perfection. It is about presence, reflection, and the courage to grow. In this candid and lighthearted roundtable, Montessori school leaders, especially Heads of School and administrators, will explore the often-unspoken side of leadership: the mistakes and moments of doubt that shape who we are and how we lead. Through shared stories, guided reflection, and group dialogue, we will reframe mistakes as powerful opportunities for connection, trust-building, and modeling a growth mindset for our teams.

Leading with trust and kindness

Nada Mašić
In Montessori environments, we guide children with trust, calmness, and deep respect for their individuality — but do we lead adults the same way? This session explores how Montessori principles can be applied to leadership, especially in guiding teams with intuition, courage, and kindness. Participants will reflect on their leadership style, explore the emotional climate of their teams, and learn how trust-based leadership fosters autonomy, motivation, and respectful conflict resolution. This workshop offers a heart-centered approach to leadership that nurtures both team harmony and personal growth
