Setting limits should not feel like a daily struggle.

Yet many adults find themselves caught between being too strict and too permissive, unsure what is truly appropriate for the child in front of them.

In Montessori, obedience is not something we demand. It is something that develops. When we understand this process clearly, limits become calmer, more consistent, and far more effective.

In this live conversation, two AMI trainers explore what obedience really means from birth to six and how limits can support the child’s development without restricting it.

What you will learn:

  • What is truly realistic to expect from a child under 3, and where adult expectations often go wrong
  • How obedience develops between 3 and 6, and why this changes everything about how we set limits
  • What freedom within limits actually looks like in daily practice
  • When to step in, when to step back, and how to recognize the difference
  • Which limits must remain consistent to support the child’s development
  • Where adults most often create tension, even with the best intentions

This webinar is for you if:

  • You work with children aged 0–6 and feel unsure about setting limits
  • You are navigating the balance between being too strict and too permissive
  • You want to stay true to Montessori while still providing clear boundaries
  • You feel confused about what “freedom within limits” really means in practice

A unique format

Two perspectives in one conversation

This is not a lecture.

It is a live dialogue between two AMI trainers working with different planes of development.

You will not hear one answer.

You will hear a dialogue.

This allows you to clearly see:

  • how the same Montessori principles take different forms at 0–3 and 3–6
  • where continuity across development is essential
  • and where misunderstandings often begin, even in well-intentioned practice
