Entering a new environment is a big step, for both children and adults.

Whether your child is entering a nursery, preschool, kindergarten, children’s group, Montessori environment, or another early childhood setting, this transition often brings many questions.

You may be wondering:

  • How can I prepare my child before the first day?

  • What should I look for when choosing a setting?

  • What if my child cries during drop off?

  • How do I know what reactions are normal?

  • How can I support my child without creating more stress?

This workshop offers practical guidance for understanding what children may experience during this transition and how adults can support them better.

This workshop will help you understand:

  • how to prepare children emotionally and practically before the transition begins

  • what tends to make adaptation easier or more difficult

  • how to respond to crying, clinginess, or stronger emotions

  • what to observe when choosing a nursery or preschool

  • how to create calmer drop offs and transitions

  • how parents and educators can support children together during adaptation

What often makes transitions more difficult?

Many adaptation challenges are not caused by the child being “not ready.”

Sometimes transitions become harder because of:

  • inconsistent routines or goodbyes
  • adult anxiety or uncertainty
  • pressure to “adjust quickly”
  • unclear communication between adults
  • sudden changes without preparation

Understanding these factors can help adults respond with greater clarity and reduce unnecessary stress for both the child and themselves.

This workshop can also support schools and educational teams during adaptation periods.

Schools may use this workshop:

  • as support for families entering a new environment,

Mili Pažická

Mili Pažická is the Head of the Preschool at Montessori School Andílek and works as a lecturer for parents, caregivers, and teachers.

For many years, she has worked closely with young children and families, supporting them through important developmental stages and helping adults better understand children’s emotional needs, independence, and everyday experiences.

She is an AMI trained educator for ages 0–3 and 3–6 and currently also in the AMI Training of Trainers for 3–6.

Through her work with children, parents, and educational teams, she combines deep practical experience with a calm, respectful, and highly supportive approach that helps families feel more confident during important transitions such as the start of preschool.

This workshop is not about creating a perfect child or a perfect adaptation.

It is about helping children feel safe, understood, and supported when entering a new environment.

And it is also about supporting parents through that journey.
