GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE COURSE

AMI Montessori 6-12 Diploma Course focuses on the development of the child as well as on interdisciplinary approach to the study of human beings, their endeavours and relationship with the universe for children from six to twelve years. This hands-on Montessori training provides the framework and tools for successfully teaching what works for each child, regardless of their socioeconomic status and stage of development. You will use the principles of Montessori education to foster a hands-on, self-paced, collaborative, and joyful classroom at any school, anywhere in the world.

Your options are, however, not limited to the classroom only as you can also work in a Montessori school administration, become a school founder/owner, AMI consultant or get enrolled in the Training of Trainers Program and set out on a path of becoming AMI trainer. Most students get a position in a Montessori school prior to their graduation.

ABOUT MONTESSORI INSTITUTE PRAGUE

At Montessori Institute Prague, we are delighted to welcome students to our premises, providing a safe and encouraging space to learn from the best and most experienced trainers.

Situated in a 20th-century residential villa, we offer three floors of training space meticulously arranged for both group lectures and individual work in authentic Montessori environments. Montessori materials are readily available for everyday practice, granting our students much-needed personal experience with various tools they can later incorporate into their work.

Our facility is conveniently located between Prague's airport and the city center, easily accessible via public transportation. The area is renowned for its lush green surroundings, and the house itself is enclosed by a private garden accessible to our students.

Course administrators and other staff members are always on hand at our training center to help orient the students and provide support during the studies.

REQUIREMENTS FOR CERTIFICATION

  • 90% attendance in all course activities
  • 120 hours of supervised practice with Montessori materials
  • 90 hours of observation
  • 120 hours of teaching practice
  • submission of observation and practice teaching reports
  • timely submission of written assignments in acceptable quality
  • completion of 9 reference albums in acceptable quality
  • passing of written and oral exams

BEFORE YOU APPLY

Enrollment criteria and requirements:

  • Ability to pursue academic work
  • University or college degree
  • English proficiency at C1 or higher (both spoken and written)
  • Motivation and persistence to become a Montessori teacher
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to self-reflect
  • Being structured and orderly

Applicants without a degree can also apply and their applications will be considered individually. Students without a degree can be accepted to the course based on probation terms. Also, when translation of the course is available, we accept students without knowledge of English.

DIRECTOR OF TRAINING

Carla Foster

Carla Foster has been the AMI Director of Diploma Course at Montessori Training Center of New England (MTCNE) for the past few years and also works at the University College, Høgskolen i Vestfold og Buskerud, in Norway.

Carla holds a bachelor's degree in Social Anthropology and Scandinavian Studies and a combined Master's degree in Old Icelandic Literature and Norwegian Literature from UC Berkeley. She has AMI 3-6 and 6-12 diplomas from MMI in London and the Montessori Institute of Milwaukee. She has worked with children at levels 3-6, 6-9, and 9-12, working in both private and public Montessori schools. She has been an elementary trainer since 2011 and had the privilege of doing some of that training under Jean Miller at the Navadisha Montessori Institute in Chennai, India, and the rest under Ann Dunne in London, England.

Carla is originally from California but has lived in Norway since 1995, where she had a 6-9 class for 12 years and consults for schools in Norway. She has also taught ballet, modern dance, African dance, and Irish dance for many years and has given workshops on writing and bringing drama, music, and dance into the elementary classroom.

Carla currently trains the 4th 6-12 AMI Diploma Course in Prague.

COURSE TRAINER

Kyla Morenz

Kyla is an AMI Elementary Trainer from Toronto, Canada. She has a B.A. from the University of Waterloo and her M.Ed. from Loyola University in Maryland. In 2011, she obtained her TESOL certificate from the University of Toronto, Woodsworth College. She has AMI diplomas at both the 3-6 and 6-12 levels. She has taught in 6-9, 9-12, and 6-12 elementary Montessori environments in Canada and Morocco.

She has particular interest in bilingual education, developing language materials for the elementary classroom, and adult learning and education.

Kyla regularly mentors teachers and schools with elementary programs in Canada, Morocco, and the Czech Republic. She has lectured on AMI elementary diploma courses in Ireland, England, Canada, United States, and France. She has worked with both simultaneous and consecutive interpretation in France, the Czech Republic, and Romania. Kyla is a Co-trainer at Montessori Institute Prague, Czech Republic.

Once you fill it out and pay, we will get in touch with you within 5 working days.

Prepare the following documents:

  • One page motivational essay answering the question ‘Why do you want to take the AMI 6-12 Diploma Course?’
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Proof of highest acquired education
  • Two professional reference letters
  • Criminal record check (copy, the original can be submitted on the first day of the course)
  • Choose your payment option

Documents requiring your signature must be signed, scanned and emailed in a pdf format to courses@amiprague.cz.

Once all the documents above are submitted and reviewed, we will schedule an online application interview to talk about the course, answer your questions and ensure you understand the course requirements.
