There are many books and other materials about animals available out there, but maybe not in your language, and not for the age group 3-6. Many Montessori practitioners run into the same gaps:
- Zoology materials that exist, but not in your own language
- Materials that exist, but are not written for 3-6 year-olds
- Turning dry, factual information into something a young child can explore and enjoy
This workshop shows you how to make these materials yourself, and how to transform dry facts into child-friendly text, so your zoology shelf can reflect your own classroom and language.
About the workshop
Bringing the natural world into your Children's House classroom.
Although the Cultural Areas are part of Montessori training, they often get less attention, as they build on the principles of the other areas. As a result, these areas often get overlooked in the classroom, or there is little variation in what they offer.
This workshop will help practitioners gain confidence and inspiration for zoology materials, without it becoming "lessons" that children have to learn.

Your speaker
Madlena Ulrich
Madlena spent her formative years in Germany, attending a Montessori elementary school, and moved to Norway in her teenage years. She earned a Bachelor's degree as a preschool educator from the University College of Vestfold and went on to Master's degree studies in Pedagogy at Vestfold University.
She completed her AMI 3-6 training at Mount St. Mary's Montessori College in Dublin, Ireland. Since 1995 she has worked as a Montessori classroom teacher and has been instrumental in advancing Montessori education throughout Norway, serving as Vice President of the National Montessori Association Council of Norway (NMF), lecturing and contributing to the development of the field.
Beginning in 2008, she completed her AMI Training of Trainers, studying for two years with Molly O'Shaughnessy in Minnesota, USA, and a summer program with Ulla Wikefeldt in Sweden. Since 2010 she has trained students in Norway, working closely with Carla Foster (AMI 6-12 trainer). She is part of the China Faculty and has led courses in China, Russia, Romania, and Thailand.
