WHAT IS THE WORKSHOP ABOUT?

The theme of the first day will be "The Secret to my Success: stories of adaptation" within the context of the Timeline of Life. During this day, we will focus on different stories tailored for lower elementary students, which will help them with “evolutionary readiness” and developing a basic understanding of habitat and adaptation. For upper elementary students, we will delve into narratives that connect the timeline of life with current knowledge about the Pre-Cambrian time and the Tree of Life.
Our exploration will further encompass specific adaptations that are crucial for survival in diverse environments, such as life in the sea, on land, and the transformative journey of animals transitioning from terrestrial to aquatic lifestyles. Additionally, we will closely examine the timeline of plants and their evolutionary processes.
Throughout the day, we will engage in a variety of activities, including sharing songs, stories, poetry, and conducting simple writing exercises. These activities are designed to equip you with versatile approaches to incorporate the Timeline of Life into different stages of a child's educational journey in elementary school.
On the second day we will continue this work and then work on creating story and text material that you can use to elaborate on the various time periods and the creatures that populated the earth during some of the periods of time that the children may have a harder time finding non-fiction writing about.

WHAT WILL WE FOCUS ON?
- Stories for lower elementary studentsEvolutionary readiness refers to the ability of living beings to adapt to their environment over time. It includes biological, behavioral, and cognitive traits that enhance survival and reproduction. During the workshop, we will explore stories designed for lower elementary students, which will help them with “evolutionary readiness” and basic understanding about habitat and adaptation.
- Stories for upper elementary studentsWe will connect the timeline of life with what is now known about the Pre-Cambrian period and the Tree of Life.
- Specific AdaptationsWe will explore the specific adaptations that are necessary for life in the sea, life on land, and life for animals leaving from a terrestrial to an aquatic lifestyle.
- Practical applicationsWe will share songs, stories, poetry and simple writing exercises to help you be able to use the Timeline of Life in different ways at every stage on the child’s journey in the elementary. We will work on creating story and text material that you can use to elaborate on the various time periods and the creatures that populated the earth during some of the periods of time that the children may have a harder time finding non-fiction writing about.
