with Dr. Marikay McCabe

The program will start in October, 2023. Sessions will take place from 4:00 to 5:30 PM CEST. We will meet for 6 consecutive weeks. Exact dates will be announced soon. We will carefully create a group with 6 motivated participants at a similar stage in the development of their program. We will work together, enriching and encouraging each other and pulling together toward your Montessori second language program.

You will need to be strongly motivated to do specific work in between the sessions so that your program can take off and move forward from where it stands now.

It is important to mention that only people who are willing to put the effort into the program should apply. We will be sharing results of our work from in between the sessions, track the progress and work on the transformation of your program. Your commitment to the program is the key and crucial aspect you should consider before applying.

You should also consider if this is the right time for you to do this mentoring group. I know what it is like to be a school leader and there are moments when there are too many pressing matters needing your attention. This is an amazing gift to give yourself and your school, but please make sure that you can put some other things aside to keep this work at or near the top of your to do list for 6 weeks. There will be other groups in the future.

All sessions will be workshops (do not expect any lectures!) and each Monday you will walk away with a specific task taking you one step closer toward a functional second language program.

A) Contact me and tell me about your dream:

This is me, Marikay McCabe

I founded Madrid Montessori School in 2006 and was its Director until 2017. I am proud that the school is a European reference for high quality AMI programs for 0-3, 3-6 and 6-12. However, during those years one of the biggest challenges we faced was developing an effective language program that aligned with our Montessori philosophy, the needs of the children and the reality of being an international school.

Taking the lessons learned during that

decade, since 2018 I have worked with school leaders and guides to support the development of fluid communication in school communities, authentic Montessori classrooms, and their second language programs. In 2020 with Mirka, I co-founded Bilingual Montessori to create a community of practice for Montessorians working with more than one language in their schools.

I served on the Board of the Asociación Montessori Española, the AMI affiliate in Spain, from 2010-2022.

I received my PhD in Anthropology from Columbia University and worked as a researcher for the World Health Organization studying the effects of culture in European health care systems. I speak English and Spanish.

My missison is to help you make your bilingual program a reality!
