PART 1 - October 30
Seeing the Child: Mindfulness, Presence, and the Prepared Guide
- Cultivating mindfulness: shifting from reaction to thoughtful, intentional response in our work with children

Preparing the adult: developing self-awareness, humility, and inner balance

Honouring the child: observing without judgment and supporting each child’s natural development with respect and consistency
PART 2 - October 31
The Prepared Adult & the Constructing Child:
Purpose, Freedom, and the Path to Independence
- The child as constructor: recognising the child’s inner drive to self construct, and our role as adults to guide that natural process
- Purposeful activity as development: real, meaningful work forms the foundation of character, confidence, and independence
- Freedom through discipline: true freedom emerges from self-control, responsibility, and engagement in purposeful work.
PART 3 - November 1
Grace and Courtesy: Nurturing the Child’s Inner Dignity and Social Responsibility
- Grace is innate: children arrive with a natural disposition toward love, dignity, and harmony, our role is to protect and nurture it’s development
- Freedom through knowledge: grace and courtesy give children the tools and confidence to act independently and appropriately within their community
- Small actions, lasting impact: everyday moments; how we respond, quietly shape the child’s character, self-discipline, and sense of belonging
PART 4 - November 2
The Power of Words: Using Positive Language to Empower the Child
- Language shapes reality: the words we choose influence how children see themselves, others, and the world; positive phrasing builds confidence, trust, and capability
- How to use constructive, affirmative language to support independence and problem-solving
- How to empower the child through choice and challenge: offering simple choices and open-ended questions invites engagement, decision-making, and self-belief

MEET THE SPEAKER

Karen Pearce
Karen Pearce is a co founder and Director of Pedagogy at The Montessori Place in Brighton, UK, where she mentors the Children's House guides.
Karen trained at the Maria Montessori Institute (MMI) in London in 1989, with Lynne Lawrence being the Director of training.
She went on to lead one of their model children’s houses for 18 years before becoming head of school, lecturer and course leader in the post diploma course in Observation. Throughout her years with the MMI she was extremely privileged to be mentored by world renowned trainer of trainer Mrs Hilla Patell.
She has 37 years of Children's House experience and she lectures and runs workshops across Europe and Asia. Karen also offers a weekly online Montessori mentorship programme, Montessori Unwrapped, to support guides in putting theory into practice.
