WHAT WAS THE WORKSHOP ABOUT?

The aim of this workshop is to support your confidence in resolving and generally handling conflicts among learners in the classroom.
What are the roots and causes of conflict? What role do biases play? What is important to keep in mind when building healthy relationships in the classroom? And why do we place so much emphasis on the value of communication?
You will learn tools through fun, interactive activities. These tools will help you manage conflict situations among learners in the classroom. This two-part interactive workshop will offer you invaluable experience and perspective of Maryse as well as provide the room for many practical activities and discussions with your colleagues. At the end of each session, you will also have the opportunity to ask your own questions during Q&A.
WHAT DID WE FOCUS ON?
- Roots and causes of conflictsWe will explore different roots and causes of conflicts. Understanding the roots and causes of conflicts will help us determine suitable tools to implement and avoid particular situations.
- Conflicts and neuroscienceWe will learn what neuroscience teaches us about positive responses. Thanks to this knowledge we will be able to use the best parts of our brain, improving relationships in the classroom.
- The role of biasWe will work with awareness of biases. Understanding and being aware of our biases makes it possible to broaden our perspective. We will then be able to put ourselves in someone else's shoes and respond successfully to arising conflicts.
- Conflict resolution skillsEnhance your conflict-resolution skills. Acquire and practice tools applicable in your classroom and your relationships. You can look forward to receiving a "recipe" that will help you gain confidence in resolving conflicts.
- Communication skillsLearn and practice active listening and paraphrasing, “I” statements and more. Implementing these lead to clear compassionate communication.
- Classroom relationshipsTrust and quality relationships among learners along with the application of relevant Montessori principles improve relationships in the classroom. This in itself lessens the need for intervention. You will have the opportunity to become aware of the needs of your classroom community and find ways of building stronger connections.
- QAThere will be time to ask questions related to conflict resolution in the classroom and in your own lives. Join us and learn practical and effective tools that you can put into action immediately and create even a more supportive and loving environment in your classroom.
