Why must we reflect on our Montessori practice continually?

Hello, hello! Today’s blog post and the origin video which goes with it is a little different. Normally, we’d connect live in my TALK WITH MIRKA FB/IG LIVE SHOW, but this time, I’m sharing something pre-recorded. Why? Because I’m actually taking a little time for myself—a quick retreat to a spa for two and a half days. I’m going to rest, recharge, and do something deeply meaningful: reflect on the past year and prepare for the year ahead.

You might be wondering why I didn’t skip this week’s connection altogether. Well, the truth is, meeting with you every Monday at 4 PM has become such a meaningful rhythm in my life. I didn’t want to disappoint you, and honestly, I didn’t want to break the routine we’ve built together. So, I thought, why not pre-record this and share it with you anyway? My wonderful colleagues have ensured that this will go live at our usual time so we can still connect, even if I’m not there in person.

Let me tell you why I feel this little spa retreat is so important. Life has a way of moving fast—too fast, sometimes. Between work, family, and all the day-to-day demands, it’s easy to get caught up in the hustle. But when we take time to pause, we create space for something powerful: reflection. This isn’t just about taking a break; it’s about looking inward and asking ourselves the big questions: What did I learn this year? What am I grateful for? What do I want to carry forward? And maybe even, what do I want to let go of?

Reflection doesn’t need to be fancy or elaborate. For me, this spa retreat is a way to physically remove myself from the usual environment, but you don’t need a getaway to reflect. It can be as simple as sitting quietly in your favorite chair with a notebook, taking a walk in nature, or even setting aside five minutes to breathe and think at the end of the day. The key is to pause. To be intentional. To give yourself the gift of time.

I’ll be honest: I’ve realized how crucial these moments of reflection are, not just for me, but for all of us. They help us slow down and reconnect with what truly matters. They allow us to process the ups and downs of life, celebrate our wins, and prepare ourselves for the road ahead. It’s not just about achieving goals; it’s about understanding who we are becoming in the process.
